Consumption Zombies

Consumption is passive — it happens to you. Output is the one move that is actually yours.

In a world where you're constantly bombarded by information, it doesn't take long to go brain-dead.

Picture a person hogging information through TikTok, IG, x.com, YouTube — then the messages from friends, the mutual groups, the incessant notifications.

In a normal setup, how often does this person actually get to process and output any of it?

With little to no output, don't you eventually go mentally silent? (Especially in this hyper-connected yet lonely internet.)

So essentially - you and I — we — are consumption zombies. And interactions with us turn meaningless, because most of the time our opinions aren't thought-through output. They're information vomit.

So I urge you to write.

Write about what you read.

Write about what you see.

Write about what you do.

Think about what you consumed — how it affected you, how it made you feel. Question it, then write about it. Pen and paper is easiest, typing comes next; or just record your thoughts — at least you offload a little.

Why I document everything

I've built a habit of documenting anything and everything. Random ideas, concepts, minute details. If I'm working on a project, I write down every variable that might affect it, then build a plan — all by hand.

Is it overkill? Yes — in maybe 40% of cases, I could just work without writing a thing.

But here's where the distinction shows up:

  1. I get to unload my brain.
  2. Random thoughts go on paper and get forgotten about.
  3. Important thoughts go on paper and stay in eye's view.
  4. I can finally visualize the problem — flow charts, diagrams, connecting the dots, seeing the bigger picture. (The best part: it lets you see a topic from multiple perspectives.)
  5. And when I need to convey an idea or ask a question, diagrams make it easier — they help with rapid context switching (especially when you're reaching out to someone juggling many things at once).

So the final output turns out far better.

And if you ever go on to publish any of it — you create social proof, too.

Consumption is passive.

Here's the thing: consumption is passive. It happens to you. Output is the one move that's actually yours.

So the next time the feed pulls you under, don't just scroll on. Stop. Write a line. Sketch a box. Argue with what you just read.

Consumption makes you a node the internet talks at. Output makes you someone it has to reckon with.

The zombies only consume. You don't have to.
